4 down 96 more to go

I had Cowell's all to myself! We got out there around 11:30 today. Unfortunately, the tides were filling in, so any breaking waves started to just become tracers again. However, there were some small breaks right at the beach area. We stood there for about 20 minutes. There were two guys out there, one of whom I believe is a surf instructor. The other guy was being pushed into the waves. I hooted for him from the beach, hoping that he'd catch some of the waves. Then I decided to jump in, even though its a bunch of small breaks. It was a great day to get wet! I suited up, then set Edlyn up at the beach to just hang out and I jumped in.As I was paddling out, three other surfers were paddling in. I waved at the older guy. Looks like they had a great session. I caught a few of the slower rolling waves. They were short rides, but I am starting to get comfortable paddling and getting up. I am also starting to experiment with attempting to turn the board. Now, I am riding a big 9'6" single find, so turning might be a feat. But, hell, I guess I will just try turning like I carve on a snowboard.I am still having trouble with the faster ways. It doesn't get that fast at Cowells, but I think I need to pop up in a lower position and go for it. Well, next weekend, I am hopefully going to be back my home break of Lindy. The waves are faster and steeper there. So, I get to practice a lot more.I got out after an hour or so, cuz I was starting to get hungry. We packed up for the afternoon, and headed to Valley fair. Lunch was some simple tacos and then we headed home to hang out.Needless to say, I think I have wiped out the stress from the previous week. Now back to a week of hell before I can start to think about getting back in the water. Unless Lindy doesn't close out in the mornings, I have yet to go for DP.

The sea that was unleashed...

The floodgates are unleashed in a manner that is always surprising to those who are on the receiving end. The fury and repercussions are felt long after the initial impact. What am I talking about? Just a generalization of how my work week went. Damn it, too busy to even write for the wookie. Monday: not too bad, but bad alreadyTuesday: too much work, stay later, got some shit doneWednesday: Server upgrade, flipped the switch at 1:30. Then went homeThursday: infrastructure not cooperating, need to drive into work. only good thing was winning two poker gamesFriday: Trying to wash the stress away. Results, to be determined, if I can get my hands on some stress washing doobage. That's how it went. So the cycle continues, this thing of ours.

How do you spell Laugh?

L - A - P - H !!! Damn man...I wish hooked on phoenix didn't work for me. that way, i can be on TV making a fool out of myself, get the exposure, and somehow become famous! But, of course, reality check, and I am not sure I do _NOT_ want not be able to spell laugh. Anyhow, that was the highlight of one of those TV nights I had last week.I was watching Street Smarts, and I really can't believe how dumb some of those people are. But, I guess that's how our country ranks first in being last in education! hehehe...anyways...enough about the hopeless.

3 down 97 times to go

So this morning was number surf session number 3 this year. It wasn't all too good today, as it was a lot of sit and wait. When we got there this morning, there were a few sets which rolled through. Then we waited for a while with nothing rolling through. I called it quits after a few hours of waiting. I was able to catch one small white water ride to end the day. However, I wasn't able to catch any waves from the outside today. I paddled for a few of them, but wasn't able to pop up to ride it. Not sure if it was the way I popped up, or if I am positioned on the wrong part of the board. But today was a little bigger than last week, so the face was a little steeper. Anyhow, will try to do another session tomorrow. Let's see what that holds.

CODE MONKEY in FULL effect

It's been a while since I had an all day coding session. By all day, I mean 13 hours non-stop in front of a T40 laptop, chugging away on Java code. I did get what I needed done, but that does not mean I can slack off this week. To top it off, it's MLK today, and our company DID have it off. anyways...back to the coding sessions. I remember back in school when assignments were due, oh say, two hours before I started working on it. Most of the time, they were nothing more than, calculate the nth degree of the fibonnacci sequence, then round it up and put all the values into some type of data structure. And what is the end result, nothing more than maybe 10 points towards the final grade. Now you see why I found it meaningless and boring, hence the reason I dropped out of CS all together. That and a few other things smileSo, I just finished this long session staring at code, but I kinda thought it was fun. If your idea of fun is trying to reverse engineer some prototyped code which went into production, then layered some more with internationalization, I'd like to talk to you. did I learn something? hmm...maybe a little...did I curse every other minute...hell yes...did I put curse word debug statements in...FUCK YEAH!....ok. I think I am now delirious from it. Going to play a quick poker game to get my mind off this shit, and then go to bed. cuz tomorrow morning, it's ground hog day again!

2 Down 98 More to Go

I managed to surf 2 days in a row. So I am two closer to my goal of 100 days out this year. It was fun days that I had. On day 1, I haven't been in the water since Christmas, so it was more to get back into the swing of it. I wasn't able to get any rides in. Not sure if it is how I am paddling, or if I am not at the right spot. So day one ended in a paddling exercise. Day 2 was a little more of the same, except I did get some rides in. The sky was blue, and it wasn't too cold. There were not too many people out, so that was fun. I managed three rides, all a little short, but getting up was so fun!

How to spend the day of birth

There's always this one day out of the year, which is recognized as the day you are born. So, in a lifetime, you'll go through a lot of those days. Today is that day for me. But since there is a major project deadline at work, I was just slaving in the office, along with a nagging headache. What a way to spend it. But after work, things lightened up somewhat. Played a friendly game of poker, then went to dinner with the fam. Nothing special, but a good way to end the night!Until next year, I will continue counting.

Warm, Tropical Breezes

Waking up at 6 in the morning for an early session. No wet suits needed here. Paddle out is easy, as the time between sets is just right. The morning breeze brews up some small 3 footer peelers going right. Just right for the long boards. Within a few sets, the sun will peak and start its ascent. It happens everyday, except I will be there to witness it.Coming in after a few hours of practicing, there's nothing left to do before lunch, but to lounge around and watch the tall mountains which houses more wildlife than you ever dreamed existed. We roll a phatty, with enough sticky crystals to keep everyone happy. Lunchs comes right after the last roach is finished. My my, what a day!HEHE...now I can stop dreaming. But wait, if all works out, I hope to spend the days like what I just described in Costa Rica!

81 Million dollar paycheck

What would you do if you hit 6 numbers on a little ticket called the lotto? And what if the payout is 81 millions dollars? Well, "I'd invest half in mutual funds, and put the other half...". It's a hypothetical question. If I found my hands around a pot of gold that big, I think I will go buy the Bellagio. Maybe, I can only buy half, but damn, buying a casino should be a great investment. Then I will charter a boat, and cruise to Micronesia and surf everyday. Finally, I'd buy my "former" company, and have my way with it!Ain't life grand? If it were only that easy. If so, I don't have to be slaving in front of endless lines of garbage code, trying to band-aid this crap back, so an over promised company critical project can get on track. Oh by the way, I hope it goes down the shitter!

Why is a blues shuffle so exciting?

I don't know how I got into listening to blues music. Was it the guitar solos, or was it what the musican had to say, maybe it because blues musicians do not become famous overnight with multi-million dollar contracts, or was it because it is simply feel good music? I lean towards feel good music.Picture a small basement nightclub, packed with people, who occasionally feel blue. Admit it, everyone does at one point. 6-10 musicians, with all different types of intsruments; brass, strings, keys, drums, harmonica, all singing about things we all can relate to, whether is it relationships, money, or just about anything. Add in the callbacks given by a crowd spoiled by southern cocktails, beer, down home southern style comfort food. Sounds like something that will allow you to unwind on a Friday night? One more thing; there is ALWAYS, I mean ALWAYS, an older dude, swaying and dancing to the rythmns of a blues shuffle being belted out on stage. Of all the blues clubs and shows I've seen, this always happens. But that just OK!

Blah...Blah...Blah...

HAHAHA..nothing really to write about today. It's that or my brain is just not working. It's probably the brain not working. So I guess I will just type something....Houston is the fattest city in the country. Isn't that something? I love awards. There's an award for something. Think about it, there's food contest awards, educational awards, stupid awards, THE PORN awards...bleh...bleh...but man, fattest city!Okok, still can't really think of something to write. laters

Pocky G - Dipped in chocolate

Have you ever had something as a kid, and didn't like it, then tried it many years later and said, "Shit, it's pretty good?" I've had many of those over the years. Growing up, I hated eating anything that didn't have beef in it. Let me count; eggs, tofu, eggplant, noodles, vegetables, rice crackers, fish, I guess just about anything. I'm not a big fan of Pocky Sticks when I was a kid. It's a cracker dipped in strawberry, chocolate..and flavors every kid should enjoy. I don't know, but I didn't like the cracker too much. Anyhow, a co-worker of mine brought some in two weeks back, and man, I don't think I knew what I was missing out on. Damn it, now I will buy them when I see it at the market. So what is the moral of this story? Try everything once before judging!

Bring it... 05

Ring in the new year? New years resolutions? get drunk? Gamble? Run on the roads like idiots? All are great options when rining in a new year. This year, 2005, is no different. Umm..let's see...I think I drank, gamble, tried to run on the roads like an idiot. Fun stuff huh? So another year has just past us by. So quick, 2004, did it seem. What did I do 'last year'? I think I can say, a how lot of nothing. Well...there are some stuff I did. The biggest being I surfed and can actually say I had fun. That was something I don't think I would ever do. But what the hell. Other stuff...hmm...let's see...work, hawaii, rome...and more, but I forgot.Well what to do this year? Plenty: - surf 100 days - get better at swimming - lose some weight - attempt to play at open jam sessionsMore to add later..but right now, watching an HK flick.
